Thank you to SafeKids Larimer County for hosting a Thank you to SafeKids Larimer County for hosting a car seat safety training at Genesis Project recently. SafeKids is committed to creating programs that reduce injuries to children at home, at play, or on their way.

Their car seat program aims to teach parents and caretakers how to properly install and use a car seat safely and correctly so that children can be protected on the road.

The instructor taught us various ways to ensure that all children are fitted safely into their car seats along with laws and best practices for each age group.

Thank you for your hard work!

We are excited to celebrate our volunteers with yo We are excited to celebrate our volunteers with you during each volunteer spotlight.

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of The Matthews House, and we couldn't do what we do without them.

We want to thank them for their hard work and dedication, and we hope that everyone reading this will join us in celebrating what they do!

Today, we are sharing the story of Rose, a peer mentor with The Matthews House.

She had this to say about what it means to be a peer mentor, "What I love about mentoring is my mentee. In my weekly sessions with the girl that I mentor, I find myself rooting for her and investing in her life. I celebrate her successes and try to offer wise advice for her challenges. She makes me laugh and she’s an incredible young woman—I am so glad to be her mentor."

When asked what made her want to volunteer with The Matthews House, Rose has this to share,

"I was drawn to volunteering with The Matthews House for two reasons. First, I am a Christian who feels that God calls me to love and serve my community. The Matthews House loves and serves its community, so it’s a great organization to give my time to. My second reason for volunteering with The Matthews House is my younger brother Kody. Kody became my family through the foster care system and really changed my life. I don’t have any words that are worthy to describe him; I love him so much. Kody lost his life in a vehicular accident in October of 2021. I don’t have the opportunity to live in a world with Kody anymore, but I do live in a world with a lot of children like him. It honors his memory well for me to develop relationships with and try to positively impact kids like Kody."

Thank you, Rose, for bringing your love and passion into The Matthews House!
